A special selection from Winemaker Jeremy Leffert—and a bravura showcase for an underrated Italian grape.
Grapes: Aglianico
Aromas: Purple flower, blueberry, cranberry, dried thyme
Flavors: Strawberry, pomegranate, blackberry
Texture: Bright and vivid with lingering grip
Aging: 10 months in a 32-hectolitre French oak foudre
Vineyard: Grown at Barr Vineyard in the Geneseo District of Paso Robles
The 2022 Aglianico is highly aromatic with purple flower, cranberry, blueberry, dried thyme and loamy notes. The palate is packed with vivid flavors of pomegranate, strawberry, blue fruits and just-ripe blackberry, accented by notes of mineral, tobacco and herb. A bright finish displays lingering grip and tension. A bravura showcase for an underrated Italian grape.
The 2022 Aglianico comes from Barr Vineyard in the Geneseo District of Paso Robles. Winemaker Jeremy Leffert—a longtime fan of classic Aglianico wines from southern Italy—jumped at the opportunity when the fruit became available before the 2022 harvest.
The grapes were gently destemmed, then cold soaked and fermented in a 32-hectolitre French oak foudre to gain enhanced textures. After fermentation and gentle pressing, the wine was settled and racked to French oak barrels (10% new oak).
After 10 months of undisturbed barrel maturation, the wine was blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Jeremy initially thought that the 2022 Aglianico would serve as a helpful blending component, but ultimately felt that the resulting wine merited its own stand-alone showcase.

Stasis
Stasis wines focus on coastal expressions of both renowned and obscure grape varieties. They pay homage to the Stasis Theory, a truth-seeking discipline first practiced by the great philosophers and orators of ancient Greece. Between the physical and metaphysical, there is Stasis — a balanced state of being.
