The 2021 Carignane envelops the nose with warm aromas of wild bramble berry, plum, cherry, cola, pine needle and loam. Broad, creamy textures are densely packed with flavors of black cherry, raspberry jam, dark coffee, gingersnap and forest floor. The finish is bright and bold, with staying power rooted in earthen minerals and anise spice. A wine that faithfully reflects Winemaker Jeremy Leffert’s fascination with the Carignane-based cuvées of Corbières.
The grapes were sourced Camp 4 Vineyard in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Ynez Valley, along the valley’s eastern edge in the Los Olivos District. Here, a long growing season and alluvial soils deliver fruit with excellent color and natural acidity—two essential qualities of varietally true Carignane.
After harvesting, the grapes were destemmed and cold soaked for two days for a gentle extraction of color and flavor. The fruit was then fermented in a small stainless steel tank over a period of 12 days.
After pressing, the wine was racked to once-filled 228-liter French oak barriques, where it aged for 20 months on the lees for enhanced textural development. The wine was un-racked for the duration of aging to preserve vitality and freshness, then bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Stasis
Stasis wines focus on coastal expressions of both renowned and obscure grape varieties. They pay homage to the Stasis Theory, a truth-seeking discipline first practiced by the great philosophers and orators of ancient Greece. Between the physical and metaphysical, there is Stasis — a balanced state of being.
