The 2022 vintage of The Possessor is a commanding expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering a captivating bouquet of ripe plum, black cherry, and black olive, accented by pencil shavings and a hint of violet. The palate is richly layered, unfolding with blackberry, cassis, forest earth, and a whisper of minerality. Notes of dried Provençale herbs and vibrant acidity lead into a long, silky finish. This formidable blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc is approachable now, yet promises to reveal even greater complexity with careful cellaring for up to 12 years.
The 2022 vintage of The Possessor is an artful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (86%), Malbec (5%), Petit Verdot (5%), and Cabernet Franc (4%), crafted from the Tooth & Nail estate in the Willow Creek District and Chaparral Vineyard in the El Pomar District. After a careful night harvest, each varietal lot was destemmed and individually fermented in a combination of 42-hectoliter oak foudres, stainless steel, and concrete tanks. The primary fermentation, lasting seven to 10 days, allowed each lot to develop its optimal phenolic profile.
Following fermentation, the wines were transferred to barrels, with the Bordeaux varieties aging for 12 months in French oak barriques (35% new), while the Rhône varieties rested in 500-liter French oak puncheons. The final blend was polished in stainless steel for an additional three months before being bottled unfiltered, preserving the purity and complexity of this vintage.
